Buddendorf, Richard Curtis (Sonny) Sonny passed away on December 28, 2009 at the age of 76. Born on December 30, 1932 in Houston, TX, he was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard Herman and Lanelle Brown Buddendorf.

He is survived by a brother, Bob Buddendorf and his wife, Susan, their children, Blythe Buddendorf Marsau, her husband Mike and their children, Ellen, Jack and David; Tricia Buddendorf Harrison, her husband Donny and their children, Avery and Lee; Carol Carlock Vig, her husband, Ben and their children, Eleanor and Hank; and John Carlock IV and his daughter Chloe.

Sonny was afflicted with cerebral palsy due to brain damage at birth, but he lived decades longer than what was expected. He rarely complained and always had a big smile and hug to offer. While he may not have lived the ideal life in the eyes of most, he did live a good life. In his younger years, he spent hours tinkering with his prized train set and enjoyed interacting with neighbors to whom he sold Christmas cards from his front porch. Sonny had a great giggle, enjoyed children and watching squirrels in the trees and most sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros and NASCAR.

He had excellent caregivers through the years including Helen, Geneva, Pam, Cindy, Johnny, Carolyn and Martha who watched over Sonny after his mother grew too frail to fully care for him alone. The family would like to especially thank Veddar and the staff at The Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in Dallas, who gave him such good care over the past year, and the special people from Heart to Heart Hospice of Texas for their care and attention to Sonny the last few weeks.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 P.M. on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas. A graveside burial service will be held at Forest Park-Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, TX on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.
